Warwick recollections

Quotes from the participants...

Brian: Thanks gents for an excellent weekend away.

Little did I think as I came around from my drunken stopper at 8am in a room tainted by the whiff of stale curry it was the start of a near perfect day.

Any day that dawns with an English breakfast will always have a highlight. Little did I know I was finally going to play some of my best golf in the company of my friends. Eventually good enough to get my name on the cup we all hold so dear. All those great weekends full of happy memories from Bude to Warwick.

James: It was a pleasure to be able to watch and admire some fabulous golf over the weekend from Simon on Friday, Ben W on Saturday and in particular Brianon Sunday.

Thanks to Ben for once again organising the courses and delivering an excellent venue for Sunday's finale.

Cheers to Matt for arranging the accommodation in a central location between the bustling towns of Warwick and Leamington Spa.

Appreciation to Kevin for managing the challenging aspects of the golfing handicap system as well as the difficult choices of group pairings.

Finally thanks to Ben F for his words of comfort and advice as I endeavoured to re-capture signs of former glory of years gone by. (Plus he picked up Ben).

Simon: Brian, thoroughly deserved my friend.
It was my pleasure to hand the Trophy over to you.
Enjoy having it !!

All the Best mate & see you soon

Great KOT Tour guys I really enjoyed the Golf & everything else that went with it - Brilliant.

Matthew: Beautiful words Brian, I'm not sure it's possible to capture the weekend more eloquently.

My personal highlights:

The elegant surroundings of our hotel
The spacious interior of Simon's SUV
Did those people steal our taxi, did they, did they?
The elegant course design at Stoneleigh Deer Park, 4 par 5s in 5 holes, nice
Did you know James is greying underneath? Shocker...
They wear short skirts in Leamington Spa you know
I have a friend who might need some counseling
Helen is now looking for new employment after the scathing feedback about her gritty porridge

Great weekend fellas, it never fails to deliver.

Speak soon,
Matthew

Brian is Warwick winner

After not playing in 2015 and even selling his clubs, Brian shook up the world of golf with his first KOT win.

Matthew summed things up nicely: "On Sunday Brian broke free from the pack with a marvelous round of golf played on a marvelous golf course in marvelous conditions to overhaul Simon's round 2 lead to finish with 100 points beating Simon and Ben (W) by 2, marvelous."

Day One - Tadmarton Heath

Clearly one of the tougher days in tournament history with only three players cracking the 30 point mark. Kevin (34) was the early leader with defending champ Simon on 32 and Ben F on 31 the closest challengers.

Day Two - Stoneleigh Deer Park

Better scoring today with a couple of 35s and two 33s on the scoreboard. Simon was one of the 35 scorers taking him to 67 points and the lead into the final day. Ben W was the other to have him poised three shots back while Kevin (63), Brian (62) with Ben F and Matthew on 61 still in reach. Only James was most likely out of the running but he was produced final day masterclasses in the past.

Day Three - Kenilworth

Brian came flying out of the pack to take the trophy for the first time. His 38 points equalled his tour best and was four points more than anyone else on the day. That gave him a two point cushion over Simon (who thought he might have done enough to keep the trophy on his mantelpiece for another year) and Ben W who was looking for his sixth win

Final Scores

Brian - 29, 33, 38 =100
Ben W - 29, 35, 34 = 98
Simon - 32, 35, 31 = 98
Kevin - 34, 29, 31 = 94
Matthew - 28, 33, 30 = 91
Ben F - 31, 30, 23 = 84
James - 24, 26, 28 = 78
