2010 (Weston-Super-Mare) - Debut win for Ben F

After a couple of years of low turnout and two round tournaments it was felt that the Tour needed a bit of reinvigorating. Bruce and Ben F were invited to join the ranks and it was the latter who took the title at his first attempt.

The 2010 event was back to three rounds and based in Weston-Super-Mare. The Friday course was on the outskirts at Worlebury. Ben F made an instant impact scoring 39 off a handicap of 19 (a tad generous perhaps). Holder Kevin was three points back after a fine 36 but James (21), Ben (a Tour low of 19 for him) and Paul (the Tour record low of 13 after completely forgetting what he was taught in his recent lessons were already out of it.

After a Friday night out in a deserted Weston the night before we stayed local and round two was at the links of Weston-Super-Mare and it was the other newcomer who top-scored. Bruce beat his handicap with 37 points to put himself back in the frame, five points behind Ben F whose total moved on to 68. Brian was also on 63 after two solid rounds while recognised links disliker Simon added another 31 points to be one point further back.

The final round was at Clevedon. It's a tough course and someone was going to need to shoot the lights out to catch Ben F. It didn't happen. Ben W top scored with 35 but a solid 33 from Ben F saw him home by six points as his rivals faltered.

Final scores:

Ben F - 39, 29, 33 = 101
Brian - 34, 29, 32 = 95
Kevin - 36, 25, 33 = 94
Bruce - 26, 37, 28 = 91
Simon - 31, 31, 28 = 90
Ben W - 19, 35, 35 = 89
Paul - 13, 23, 26 = 62
James - 21, 19, 21 = 61

Anything else you want to add to this. I think the Lauriston Hotel deserves a mention, they looked after us well.
